OZSPOTS CAMBOOYA

Chocolate spotted female

Reserved for Simona & Chiara of Milano, Italy Red collar Cambooya is a town in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia, 148 kilometres west of Brisbane.  European settlement of the area dates from 1840, when Arthur Hodgson chose 65,000 acres (26,305 ha) of prime land, which he named Eton Vale. In 1843 the NSW Commissioner of Crown Lands carried out a survey and reserved a site on Eton Vale for a township. He named it Cambooya, a rendering of the Aboriginal word 'yambuya', thought to refer to tubers growing in a water hole.
OZSPOTS JAN JUC

Chocolate spotted female

Sold - Roshni S of Spotswood, Vic

Purple collar Jan Juc is a coastal town of Victoria, Australia, adjacent to Torquay famous for its surf.  The only known fossil of Janjucetus was found in the late 1990s by a teenaged surfer named Staumn Hunder, near Jan Juc. The name Janjucetus hunderi, honours both the township and the discoverer.  Janjucetus is an extinct genus of whale that lived about 25 million years ago in coastal seas off southeast Australia.  It had large teeth for gripping and shredding prey,

OZSPOTS LAWSON

Chocolate spotted male

Sold - Ayeisha G of Thirroul, NSW Dark Blue collar Henry Lawson (1867 - 1922) - was an Australian writer and poet, born born in a goldfield town in New South Wales. His father was a Norwegian-born miner who went to sea at 21 and arrived in Melbourne in 1855 to join the gold rush.  His mother was Louisa Albury.  On Henry's birth, the family surname was anglicised and the family took the surname 'Lawson'.  Most of Lawson's work focuses on the Australian bush such as the desolate "Past Carin'", and is probably the first accurate description of Australian life as it was at the time.  "The Drover's Wife" with its "heart-breaking depiction of bleakness and loneliness" is regarded as one of his finest short stories.  During his later life, the alcohol-addicted writer was Australia's best-known celebrity.  In 1903 he rented a room at Mrs Isabella Byers' Coffee Palace in Nth. Sydney - the beginning of a 20 year friendship with Mrs. Byers. Despite his position as the most celebrated Australian writer of the time, Lawson was deeply depressed and perpetually poor due to unfortunate royalty deals with publishers. His ex-wife repeatedly reported him for non-payment of child maintenance, resulting in jail terms. He was jailed at Darlinghurst Jail for drunkenness and non-payment of alimony, and recorded his experience in the haunting poem "One Hundred and Three" - his prison number - which was published in 1908. He died at Mrs. Byers' home in 1922.

OZSPOTS LEOPOLD

Chocolate spotted male

Sold - Katrina R of Boronia, Vic Pink collar Leopold - just south of Geelong in Victoria and the gateway to the Bellerine Penninsula.  The area was formerly known as Kensington. The Post Office opened as Kensington on 19 May 1858, and was renamed Kensington Hill in 1882, Leopold Hill in 1884 and Leopold in 1885.
OZSPOTS LORNE

Chocolate spotted male

Sold - Neville & Margot Y of Camberwell, Vic Green collar Lorne is a seaside town in Victoria, Australia, situated about the Erskine River and is a popular destination on the Great Ocean Road tourist route.  Lorne is situated on Louttit Bay, named after Captain Louttit, who sought shelter there in 1841 while supervising the retrieval of cargo from a nearby shipwreck. The coast was surveyed five years later in 1846. The first European settler was William Lindsay, a timber-cutter who began felling the area in 1849.   Subdivision began in 1869 and in 1871 the town was named after the Marquis of Lorne from Argyleshire in Scotland on the occasion of his marriage to one of Queen Victoria's daughters.

OZSPOTS KANIVA

Chocolate spotted female

Reserved for Alexandra M of Germany

Light Blue collar Kaniva is a town in Victoria, Australia, located north of the Little Desert National Park.  It is located roughly 25km east of the South Australian border and was a commonly used resting point for those travelling to and from Adelaide.   My great-grandfather travelling from Adelaide in the 1870's settled in Kaniva where my grand-father was born.
