Derivation of Kittens' Names

OZSPOTS JINDABYNE - The original town and inhabitants of Jindabyne were relocated in the 1960's when the Snowy River was dammed as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, with only a handful of houses being moved to their new location. The remains of the old town lie submerged under Lake Jindabyne and can occasionally be glimpsed when lake levels are low.   Modern Jindabyne is a year round holiday resort and is a very cosmopolitan place with its mix of new residents and pioneering families.

DARRAWEIT GUIM -
This is a small town n Victoria, situated on Deep Creek, which rises in the hills beyond Romsey on the edge of the Macedon Ranges. In 1992 the town had an approximate population of 300 with approximately 120 homes and a local school overseeing 51 students.  Platypus can be spotted in the local creek.

DAMPIER -
William Dampier, born about 1651, was an English sea captain, author and scientific observer.  Early in 1688, his ship Cygnet was beached on the northwest coast of Australia near King Sound for repairs.  Whilst waiting for repairs to be completed, he made notes on the fauna and flora he found there.  In 1699, he was given command of the ship HMS Roebuck and commissioned to explore Australia and New Guinea.  On July 26, 1699 he reached Dirk Hartog Island at the mouth of Shark Bay in Western Australia.  He was the first Englishman to explore or map parts of New Holland (as Australia was first known).  The town of Dampier and the Dampier Archipelago are named after William Dampier.  Dampier is situated on King Bay which is 1,558 km from Perth on Western Australia's coral coast.  The Dampier Archipelago consists of 42 islands within 45 km radius of Dampier, popular for fishing and diving on the coral reef and exploration of the many shipwrecks that lie there.

SNOWY -
The Snowy Mountains are the highest Australian mountain range wherein lies Australia's highest mountain, Mount
Kosciusko, 2,228 metres above sea level.  The Snowies are in New South Wales and are part of the larger Australian Alps and Great Dividing Range.  The mountain range is thought to have had Aboriginal occupation for more than 20,000 years.  It was first explored by Europeans in 1835.  A low-lying type of pine tree, suspected of being the world's oldest living organism, is found hidden in its depths.

HAWKESBURY -
This is one of Australia's major rivers and is found in the coastal region of New South Wales.  The Hawkesbury River and its tributaries virtually encircle the metropolitan region of Sydney, capital of New South Wales.
