Here at Oz Catz, cats are our life!Oz Catz is your Specialist Ocicat Breeder - Registered with GCCFV (Member No. 1768). We are located in Australia and our Ocicat kittens travel to all states of Australia, as well as to many international destinations. Oz Catz is the biggest and most active Ocicat breeder in the Southern Hemisphere, importing many new Ocicat blood lines into Australia to keep the breed strong and healthy. We come originally from a professional background, so it's natural that we approach breeding in a professional manner by providing clearly written receipts, health guarantees, health records, arranging transport, pedigrees. We also have clearly defined breeding goals to raise Ocicat kittens that -
But ........ that's where the 'business' ends. Then comes the love, dedication and passion - our Ocicats are our life. We work full time to raise our kittens to achieve our goals - we don't have full time employment elsewhere - we are not part-time hobby breeders - we don't expect our cats and kittens to raise themselves whilst we are at the office - we are with our kittens every step of the way. We're often asked how we can stand to have our kittens leave us because we get so close to them and yes, it's often very difficult - but it's a bit like being a neo-natal nurse - once our babes are ready to take their place with their new families, our task is done and we have to say good-bye. We can only love them and nurture them as much as we can whilst they are with us. That's why it's especially lovely to hear news of them and see their pictures as they grow into adults, which is why we dedicate so many web pages to our kittens as they have grown up with their new families. All our kittens are raised with our dog, Georgia, pictured here with chocolate spotted Penelope, Dorothy, and Hunter. Hunter left us a week after this photograph was taken to go to his new parents, but sadly was killed on the road shortly afterwards when he was allowed to go outside unattended.
Our kittens are raised in our home (chaos at times!!), but they get quite used to the sound of the television, clattering dishes, toilets flushing, phones ringing, etc. Our Oz Catz cattery is Five-StarThe Oz Catz cattery was originally a small house situated on our property just metres from our back door. This has been converted into a cattery comprised of three sections on three different levels. The cattery has been designed to allow our cats plenty of room to run and jump and climb. There are sundecks, big windows, fabulous views of Phillip Island and French Island and beyond and they are close enough to our home to see what's going on and who's coming and going at all times. Ocicats are very social so this is important to ensure the cats who spend any time in the cattery are happy and contented. They are frequently entertained by the cows grazing on lush pastures in the foreground, the mobs of visiting kangaroos and wallabies from the nearby bush, the thousands of native birds passing by. We had a small Monitor Lizard pass by the other day ! .....
And a young Koala as well ....... And a pair of wedge-tailed eagles often visit .....
All of our kittens and most of our queens live in the house with us. The cattery is used when the girls need mating, and for a change of scenery for them (and us) when it is needed. Most of the stud boys live in the cattery. The cats enjoy playing in the grassy areas and lounging on the sundecks of the cattery, which provides lots of room for playing, jumping and just lazing around. There are sundecks, fly-wire screens, large windows, lots of light, vinyl floors, comfy beds, scratch posts, activity centres and garden areas for play. We spend most of our time with our cats and kittens - and so does Georgia!
The cats enjoy wonderful views from the cattery - this is the morning view -
And this is the afternoon / evening view -
It's a tough life being an Ocicat at Oz Catz!!! And this is Granny Nola -
