Ocicat - The Lounge-Room Leopard

Are you drawn to the beauty and grace of the wild cats?

Would you love to be owned by a Leopard or an Ocelot?

Now you can have it all in the very special Ocicat - without worrying it might eat your dog!!

The Ocicat name - The Ocicat is aptly named because it reminded its first breeders in America of the beautiful spotted Ocelot.  The Ocicat offers the lithe athletic beauty that distinguishes the wild cats whilst at the same time has the domesticated charm of a pedigree cat.

The Ocicat spots - The first thing that catches your attention with the Ocicat is the wonderful spotted coat, its sleekness and its smooth silky luxurious touch.

The Ocicat temperament - The second thing that impresses about the Ocicat is its charming and affectionate nature.  Although the Ocicat is bred to emulate or look like a wild cat, its heritage is pure pedigree - a combination of Abyssinian, Siamese and the American short-hair cat.

The Ocicat intelligence - So intelligent!!  The Ocicat is easy to train, responds brilliantly to praise and is ever eager to please - a delight to have around the house.  The Ocicat looks like a cat - but thinks like a dog!!  It happily fetches and comes when called.

The Ocicat colours - How does a choice of 12 colours sound??  Just as fabulous as the Ocicat itself!!  Yes, 12 colours, plus the elusive Ivory.  The tawny spotted and chocolate spotted Ocicats resemble little leopards whilst the black silver or chocolate silver Ocicat look like the magical snow leopards.  The very rare Ivory looks like a ghost leopard.

The Ocicat is a lover not a fighter - great with children - The Ocicat - rare, exotic - a cat suitable for the connoisseur - or an affectionate family member.  The Ocicat is very people, cat, dog and children friendly.  The Ocicat spots and intense gaze give them their 'wild cat' look - their affectionate temperaments make them one of the best pedigreed cats you could hope for - incredibly stunning to look at;   unbelievably luscious to touch;  charming and pleasurable to live with;  and intelligent as well - it's hard to go past the Ocicat!!

The Ocicat thinks more like a dog than a cat! - They are very people interactive, follow their family members like shadows, "help out" with daily tasks, come when they're called, easy to train to household rules and simple commands, happily play "fetch', often seen carrying toys and "prizes" in their mouths.

So if you're looking for a loyal family companion that's blessed with the temperament of the perfect pedigreed cat and graced with the spectacular look of a wild cat - look no further than the Ocicat.

Ocicats - The Leopard Look-Alike Pussy Cat

  Pure Pedigree

  No Wild Blood

That's a summary of the Ocicat breed, now read on for even more information -

Chocolate spotted silver Ocicat girl, Ozspots Leila

Cat lovers have ever been drawn to the beauty and grace of the wild cats.   Now they can have the look of the wild cat, but with the predictable personality of the pussy cat in the Ocicat!

There is no wild blood in the Ocicat - it has been bred especially to look wild, but it is 100% pure domestic breed, so it has a predictable pussy-cat temperament.

It is the only spotted domestic breed especially bred to emulate the wild cats.  The Ocicat - a very rare breed of domestic cat in Australia , resulted from a chance breeding between an Abyssinian and a Siamese in the USA over 50 years ago.

After much breeding and refining, the result is today's exquisite Ocicat with its stunning spotted coat, mimicking the wild Ocelot or miniature Leopard.

The Ocicat is a large active cat with an athletic appearance.  It has a solid body, is well muscled and has a beautiful sheen on its short, tight coat to show off its spots.  The coat feels silky soft to the touch.

The pattern on the coat is very special - the spots are like a thumb print -

Like wild cats, the Ocicat also radiates elegance in its form and movements.  The female adult can weigh between 3.5 and 5 kg. whilst the male can weigh up to 8 kg.

The head of the Ocicat is square-shaped with an average length nose.  The ears are relatively big and they generally have striking yellow, gold or green eyes.

Their hind legs are longer than their front legs and their tail is relatively long and darker at the tip.

The Ocicat has been exported from USA to other countries around the world and its popularity is increasing rapidly.  The Ocicat breed is still fairly rare in Australia - those cat fanciers 'in the know' seek it for its natural beauty, its unique genetic composition and its lovable character and behaviour.

Although the Ocicat looks wild, they make wonderful companions, becoming very devoted to their owners, often following like shadows.

They are active, lively cats - always up for a cuddle.

They are loyal, playful, curious, companionable and sociable.

Ocicats satisfy the desire for an exotic looking cat, but pose no special problems with regard to their temperament, diet, grooming or health.  They eat the same as every domestic cat and their coats need only very occasional grooming to keep them sparkling!

They have spotted tummies.  Ocicats come in twelve colours - for more information - click on the link to Ocicat Colours here.

You can also see the colours of some of our Oz Catz kittens as they have grown up with photographs sent to us by their new owners - click here for the link to Oz Catz Kitten Colours

Ocicats make excellent pets for families as they love people, children, other cats and dogs.

Kittens are usually available between the age of ten and twelve weeks, by which time they have had their kitten vaccinations and have developed the physical and social stability needed for their new homes.

As far as we know, there are no health problems specific to the Ocicat breed.  Ocicats are easy to keep, requiring no special diet and no special grooming.

Ocicats are highly intelligent and easily trained.  They can be trained to fetch, walk on a harness and leash, and happily confirm to household rules.

Ocicats and vigorous and vital.
